Well, the only way I was able to attain my goals was with support. My family and my in-laws were a HUGE support system. Without them, my family would not be where we are today. We had financial support with WIC, medquest, even welfare for a short time. It wasn’t easy by any means. Marriage in itself is always a work in progress. There is NO such thing as a perfect marriage and everyone rides the roller coaster. Some don’t make it back up the hill, others do.
I got choked up (yes, on the bus) thinking about my life. In my eyes and in my heart, I am a success. I might not be a millionaire according to the Bank of Hawaii. But my heart and my soul are rich. I am surrounded by love, support, and have everything I need to thrive.
Through the ups and downs, we’ve pulled through and continue to make every day work. I look at my family and I’m proud at what we’ve built. My kids turned out spectacular! They are respectful, obedient, have goals and dreams, and take care of each other. Not just family, but everyone around them. For a family that started out before we were even old enough to rent a car, we turned out ok. We made the right choices, followed the right path, and are still above water. There were times when I honestly thought, ok, this is it. We’re going down like the Titanic and there’s no coming back. But, we survived. We didn’t go down with the ship.
I want to share my story with you. Because EVERYONE has a story and if I had the time, I’d want to know all the stories out there. Everyone should share their story. There might be another person, another soul, another family going through what you have and they could learn from your experience(s). Lift each other up, not kick them when their down. We all have choices. It’s a matter of making the right ones and sticking to it. If life was supposed to be nice and easy, we’d all be rich and happy.
