Welcome to my not-so-secret diary!
It’s official. I’m ON the internet. Not a social media site, or as a reviewer on yelp or amazon (which I do on both btw). I now have my own space to share my experiences with the world. I feel like I’m standing on the top of the highest mountain yelling, “AH LEE AH LEE OXEN FREE!!!” or “REEEE KO LAHHHH!!”
So, to start off this blog, I have exciting news!!
As you know, I teach coupon classes. I’ve been posting on Craigslist, Facebook, Instagram, and other online sites that offer free advertising. Well, you can only pester your warm market with your “ads” for so long before they all go numb and start hiding your updates or blocking you from their pages. And for public forums like CL, people have difficulty finding anything credible on there anymore. So even if my ad is worded to fish you in like a hungry ahi and plastered with pictures of my many toothbrushes for 19 cents, I barely get any bites to my invitations.
I have a very good friend who has connections. I asked her if she could possibly use me to help serve the community by offering my free coupon classes. Her response, “come to my meeting on Monday and I’ll give you the floor to pitch your class!” So, I did. This one hour investment with the Board meeting of the EBCDO (Ewa Beach Community Development Organization), had me walking out of that room on the list as a new Board member. Wowzers!
What does this mean? This means that I’m now a full fledged member of this organization that has done so much for the Ewa Beach Community, including my family. Did you know that they offer free classes? Not just for children, but adults too? Thanks to this group, I was able to take a web designing class at Leeward Community College for FREE. I used what I learned from that class to build this site you’re on now. YEAH!
My daughter Shelby took a FREE photography class that was being offered by the EBCDO and they even provided the digital cameras to use. At the end of the course, their photos were put up gallery style in the lobby of the Kapolei Hale. There was a full ceremony, certificates for the participants, and Hawaiian Blessing! The kids enjoyed it, learned a new skill, and broadened their horizons.
Have you seen the new playground equipment across from Campbell High School? That was due to the hard work and efforts of the EBCDO.
This organization has SO much to offer the community and they need volunteers. The ONLY requirement of the participants is ONE HOUR a month minimum. Every 1st Monday of the month at 6:30 PM there is a meeting in the Ewa Beach Public Library to discuss updates and upcoming activities.
If there are activities and events, we ask for you to come out and support the cause. We need manpower to help set up and break down tents, chairs, and tables. Even if it’s just for an hour. Any and all help is always APPRECIATED!
If everyone pitched in, the change in Ewa Beach would be TREMENDOUS! I may not live in Ewa Beach anymore, but my family does and I want it to see it grow into a community that would make EVERYONE wish they lived there.
Can you donate an hour of your time a month? If so, contact me or go to the EBCDO site on my favorite links page for more information.
